Rhetoric Project
Letter to secretary arne duncan (project/written piece)
Project Reflection
The main objective of this project was to explain a certain set of beliefs about a specific topic to an audience through persuasion and passion. I chose to focus on the lack of care and initiative in the America Education System. I wrote a paper explaining that the way we teach our kids, is failing them, because not every student learns the same or cares about the generic topics that are exchanged between teachers and students. This specific paper was a letter to the Secretary of Education in the United States, Arne Duncan (As Seen Above). This is what my project consisted of.
This project has showed me how much someone can affect a population of people by sharing who they are and why they believe so strongly abut certain topics. I am excited because it gives me the feeling that i can change the way people perceive things in society, affectively changing not only the world but the people in it. The ideologies that we all carry with us can be changed and affect4ed by certain things we encounter in our lives and see now that it happens with everything we see in the world. From food, to medicine, to music, and education. There are so many things in the world that rhetoric can have affect on.
I loved talking about my belief in the fact that the American Education System is failing me. I am not just someone reporting on it, I am in the trenches and i love how much I connect with something that I see everyday and that I am passionate about and want changed. I loved doing research and seeing how Americans have declined in the area of literacy and mathematics, it helped reinforce my belief that only teaching a certain set of classes and a specific content.
There was one thing during this project that caused me to struggle, which was the research. It was hard to find good reliable resources to use for evidence. I kept pushing and ended finding some very good opinionated articles and TED Talks about the idea. Even though I found the information I was looking for, I think the next time I research something in the realm of education or frankly any topic, I would take a much more organized approach to searches and information picking.
This project showed me that through a belief system I can affect the way the world perceives me and how I perceive the world. My research and writing piece helped enforce my already strong belief about Education in America and how we are failing the future generations in a way that is destructive to our monumental past and impending future. I feel that this project has not only helped me grow academically in the way I approach persuasive writing but also in my character and how I treat matters that mean a great deal to me as well as others.
