Happiness and Meaning Project
Happiness And meaning project Reflection
Objectively in this project students were required to find and develop their personal philosophies and what happiness or meaning in life meant to them, through exploring different philosophers and philosophies we were able to discover that and in turn creating a writing and art piece around it. My philosophy is that happiness and meaning in life is found by pursuing the things that specific individuals are passionate or have interest in. This creates the concept that life can be as enjoyable as possible because everyday you will be performing and acting towards the things you love and care about. To display this in a writing piece I used spoken word poetry, in relevance to the fact that it is one of my interests and it captures my attention. For the art piece potion I chose to draw the New York City Skyline, because one of my interests and pursuits in life is to live in NYC, therefore I was displaying meaning in my life.
I used to believe that the things that make you happy in life are the relationships around you, but over the course of this project I have found new knowledge in the fact that people around you tend to not be as reliable to your overall goal of happiness because the human ego drive. All humans are selfish and that is in our DNA but the fact that humans haven't learned to not set other humans as the foundation in their life is blasphemous. Tony Gaskins Jr. once said, "If you don't dream, then someone else will hire you to build theirs.". I believe that this correctly represents everything that my personal philosophy has formed into over this project, not people but dreams. I do not see a point in believing in anything else in life. If there is an after life, why wouldn't it be based off of the way that people live their lives. If there is no after life on this world, then at least you lived the one chance you had 100 percent to your advantage and nobody else's. There is also a certain realization I made about relationships with the people you care about as well. The people around you will flock and support you if you are doing something that you care about in result to pursuing things that you care about and people respecting it and caring about what you are doing in your life. This is how my personal philosophy has grown over the past few months as this project has been developing.
Where I go from here is completely my choice. I can choose to follow my philosophy and where my passions will take me, or i can sit around and live a life full of struggles and negativity because i regret not acting on passion in my life. I think the only way i can prove my belief system to myself is if I can follow through on my preaching of following dreams. There are some big life questions that are yet to be answered to me, about love, afterlife, and what being a good person really means. They are very foggy ideas to society as people scramble to find what all of those things represent or mean. The easiest thing for me is to sit back and follow what i already know, then everything else will come to me in time.

Writing piece - the Death of sharing
When we were young we all dreamed to be famous,
Dreamin' about money and happiness,
For our lives to be shameless,
But now everyday we settle for good not great,
Acting like sitting in an office making copies was our fate,
But what we don't realize is that we were given the blessing of following dreams,
Living life everyday weaving through the ordinary seams,
Never taking a leap of faith to rip through societies jeans
We travel through school and work for someone else's accolade,
Never taking a chance for a new meaning because you're too a-fraid,
Stayin' at the sam social level, always settling for the median,
Always too scared to show your true colors and spend life Shakespearean,
Because they tell you that dropping out of school,
You'll never get a good job,
But nobody ever brings up the innovative Steve jobs,
Changing your direction towards where you want to go shouldn't be forbidden,
Fore there was a man who left his medical career to redefine many kinds of religion,
His name was Charles Darwin,
He took the high road when it was darkened,
Some believe that interest and ambition is something pursued outside of normal labor,
I am telling you that it is something more like a life saver,
It's time to change the way you think and start to care,
We've only got one life to live and it's not enough to share.
