Project Reflection
Project Description
In this project we studied the idea and the subject of Globalization. Globalization is the process of integration between people, countries, and companies driven by international trade/investment aided by information technology. We were given the task of creating an Op-Ed (Opinionated
Editorial) and Political Cartoon based on a conflict existing in the world of our own choice. To create the Op-Ed we had to research the topic and find rich evidence to include in our writing to prove our opinionated thesis. To find the evidence we created to forms of research notes, one for basic information on what we are investigating and one for in depth information and resources. Using those to form of research it gave use the ability to make informed opinions and sound professional with our writing. Regarding the production of our Political Cartoon, we had to base the creation off of our opinions in the Op-Ed. We made rough drafts and had peer critiques to show ourselves how our work and productivity could be improved. After done getting feedback we moved on to creating our finalized draft and spent lots of time perfecting our work in order to make it beautiful.
Learning Reflection
The information provided to me in this project overall was very complementary to my overall learning in 10th grade Humanities class. I had no idea what globalization was and how it correlated with my life. The world around me is all connected and this project has given me a new understanding and perspective on life on earth in the technological and integrated world we live in today and that has to be my biggest overall takeaway from this project.
Cartoon Reflection
I have grown so much as a political artist, using my artistic abilities to convey opinions and problems that I struggle with on my own and bringing them to paper for the world to see. As I had created my first draft, my idea and point was vague and I didn't know how to clearly convey my problem of corrupted governments in Western Africa inducing drug trade in their country because of such a wounded economic plague and system. To convey one of the countries in Western Africa I used the country and the government of Nigeria to convey that corruption by showing of government owned aircraft dropping drugs across Europe. I thought that this would be hard for the audience to understand the point so I made some idea and scenery changes. Instead of using the aircraft idea, I used the idea of the Nigerian President living the high-life and hanging out while dirtying his hands with drug trafficking to keep the country afloat in the rough economical times that Western Africa has been experiencing. I liked this end product a whole lot more and I was much more confident with the beauty of my work.
Op-Ed Reflection
The idea of an Op-Ed being so structurally based bothered me at the beginning of the project. I didn't think that it felt like a person (me) was sharing opinions but a computer was generating them based off of a set standard and outline. I grew out of this feeling because I learned that I can still share the opinions I have just not at the moments I would've without a structure and outline for my writing. The structure was so strict and I had to pay very close attention to how I was writing in order to stay within the guidelines while still proving my thesis with needed evidence. It was a long process but I think it is very beneficial towards my learning and it gives me the tools and the belief in my self that I can accomplish things even when they appear complicated. I could used this in the future to write legal documents and become very educated and professional with why I write that can be presented to shoe my abilities and qualifications for colleges as well as jobs.
